Then Sings My Soul....A Reunion with Mother Nature

Happy glorious day! The weather is finally, finally playing nice, and we took advantage of it today. My Granny Jan was having a party up in North Ogden to celebrate her 80th birthday. We wanted to go, but knew that the four hour round trip drive wasn't the most thrilling way for our kids to spend their Saturday. So we decided to stop in Sandy and hike to the Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir to break up the trip.

It was our first hike of the year, and Cal's first hike ever. It felt SO good to get out. Since I was pregnant last year, I sort of feel like I have been trapped inside since last April. Although the hike was short, and fairly easy...it was huge for me emotionally. Huge. I can't even explain how my soul was singing to be outside connecting with nature. It was nothing short of miraculous.

I think the kids really enjoyed it too. They were well behaved, and got a long reasonably well for most of the rest of the day, even though we spent a lot of it in the car. Cal loved the hike, and was excited and happy to be along for the ride. Now that the sun is coming out, I need to figure out a hat situation for him so his cute little baldy head doesn't get burnt to a crisp.

Gran's party was good. I'm glad we went. I got to see a lot of my mom's side of the family, that I only see every few years. I wish I would have taken a picture, but due to several bathroom stops, a really long detour at Walmart, and having our phones die and therefore getting lost; we only caught the tail end of the party. I was a little flustered and didn't think about taking pictures. But it was still good to see family.

Surprisingly, driving through North Ogden brought back a ton of childhood memories. I never lived in North Ogden, but both my parents grew up there, and when I was younger Granny Jan lived there. We passed a nature well, where I remember going to fill up water jugs every Sunday afternoon, so that we had drinking water for the week. We drove passed the cemetery where my Grandpa Jack, and my Grandma and Grandpa Lemmon are all buried. And we ate dinner at Kirt's Drive-In, where I had eaten many times as a kid, but couldn't have remembered that until we drove passed it. It's weird how things like that come back to you.

Root beer freeze, just like when I was a tiny kid.
