Spring Break Moab: Day 1: Leaving Early
How many years have I been saying we need a roof rack? Haha! And how many years have we managed to squeeze everything in without one. Our Suburban is headed out on her maiden voyage, as least as far as family vacations go, and she fit all 8 of us and all our stuff. A-MAZING!
Surprise, we're headed to Moab, on what (for us) is a super spontaneous, last minute trip. We only decided to go 3 weeks ago.
All winter I'd been pining away at vacation spots near and far, dreaming of sunshine, hiking trails, and the glorious outdoors. We have some stuff planned for June and July, but those months just weren't getting here fast enough. Originally, I wanted to try and hit Goblin Valley over Spring Break, but by the time I got online to check it out everything was booked. Plus, I wasn't really sure I wanted to tent camp with Baby Cal in March. Several friends posted pictures of Arches, and I decided to see if anything was available there. The KOA in Moab and their two room cabins did not let me down. We booked two nights.
Then today, yes TODAY, Aaron decided he wanted to leave today. Packing-wise, I thought it was do-able, he called the KOA and our cabin was open. He came home from work early, we loaded the Suburban and away we went.
It's only about a 3.5 hour drive. How did I not realize this? Now that I do realize this, I think we might just spend every Spring Break for the rest of our lives in Moab, because it's that awesome. We listened to book 1 of Harry Potter on the way. The kids traveled well. And we'll start our adventures first thing in the morning.
PS. I totally bought a selfie-stick, just so I could take pictures of our whole family together at Arches.
