Some In-Betweens

We've had a lot of big events lately, but today I wanted to post a few of the things that have been going on in between.

Lincoln's den was in charge of Pack Meeting last time. They decided to throw a carnival. Lincoln was manning the "Pie-Face" booth. If you know me well, you know that I HATE having things in my face...water,  my hair, whipped cream...anything. So pause for a moment and appreciate this public demonstration of a mother's true love for a 9-year old son. Yes. I played his pie-face game. That's what mothers do.

A few weeks ago, the kids' school had tryouts for the school talent show. All my kids tried out. Adelia and Ivan recited Shakespeare poems and Lincoln played a piece on the piano. When the list was posted of people who had made it, Adelia's name was on it! I was so excited for her!! The judges called and told us that she was very polished and that they were impressed with a first grader being able to recite Shakespeare. Of course Lincoln and Ivan were disappointed that they didn't make it. But I feel like it was a good experience for them to realize that 1) they aren't always going to be the best at everything, and 2) That Adelia (and therefore other kids also) has different talents and strengths than they do, and it's ok to celebrate that. I was really happy for Del, because a lot of time she is in the shadows of her big brothers. It's fun to see her finding her interests and talents, and to develop that part of herself that is different from them.

On the night of the big talent show, she was so excited. She begged me to please, please, please do her hair super fancy, and let her wear her Easter dress, and my sparkly costume-jewelry diamond bracelt that used to be my Grandma Lemmon's. I let her do all of the above. We invited Gramma Tam and Papa Kerry, and Grandma and Grandpa Sparks to come too, so she's have a big crowd of people there cheering her on. She did really well, although a bit nervous, and seemed to be enjoying performing for the crowd.

The raspberry box is complete! And the raspberries are planted. We made a trip up to Cook's Greenhouse and Nursery in Orem to pick out our plants. I really like shopping local for my plants if I can. I feel like the plants to do better, and then I'm using my dollars to support local businesses.

I couldn't decide what kind of raspberries to get, so I got some of each. 2 purple summer baring, 2 red ever-baring, and 2 fall golds. I'm pretty excited to have raspberries. They probably won't produce super well this first year, but after that....bring it on! What I'm trying to decide now is if I want to make a second box for blackberries...or more raspberries....or both.

We're heading out of town later this week for an early Spring Break! Moab here we come, I am SO SO SO excited. I decided that I needed a baby carrier that would let me carry Cal on my back (as well as front) because I think I'll be a better hiker with his weight balanced on my back. I've been eyeing a Mei Tia for awhile now, and I finally just decided to go ahead and do it. Tested it out while I did house work today, and Cal seems to approve.

Ivan and Lincoln have been taking the city's Urban Fishing class, and the other night Ivan caught one! They say necessity is the mother of invention....but it's also the mother of figuring out how to do things. Neither Aaron nor I know how to clean and gut a fish. But since Ivan brought a dead trout home, we figured it out ASAP, and cooked it up that night for dinner. It was tasty! And it was a really cool impromptu anatomy/biology lesson for my kids. My kids won't learn everything from me, but by the end of their childhoods they aught to at least know where their food comes from! Haha!
