The Death of Adi

Before Adelia was born, we seriously considered nicknaming her Adi. I love the name Adi, and since it's pretty popular these days, we were only going to use it as a sometimes nickname. Well, after she was born I gave it a whole-hearted effort, but 16 months later, Aaron and I agree that the name just isn't working out. We are much more likely to call her Delia, or Del, when we want to shorten Adelia (And surprisingly, we really don't shorten it that often). Both seem to fit her personality much better. So we have officially decided to not call her Adi anymore. Maybe when she's a teenager, we'll try it out again, but I kind of doubt it.

Since this decision, I've had to get crafty. When she was born we hung the letters for Adi on her wall. My friends helped me make the letters at her baby shower. But if we aren't going to call her Adi, then Adi can't stay on the wall in her room. So, using the same technique as my friends used the first time, I redid the letters on her wall to spell Adelia. I think they turned out awesome. Gotta love Mod Podge. :)

Isn't it funny how nicknames work out? Neither Aaron nor I really have one. We never planned on giving Lincoln one, but Linc fits him perfectly. Ivan doesn't have one either. And here we are with Adelia. We know lots of Nathans who are definitely NOT Nates, and plenty of other kids (and grown ups too, I suppose) who only go by their nicknames. My uncle Tex, being a prime example. His name is Steven, but everybody has always called him Tex. And Aaron has a cousin Stephanie, who has always gone as Stevie. I love names. They fascinate me in ways I can't even begin to explain. :)
