Letter Day: J is for Joy!

I have been a complete slacker at blogging about letter day. So I have to apologize to Ivan, who will look back at this blog book at some point in his life and not be able to figure out what we did for his E, F, G, H, or I letters. I'm trying to get back on track. Tuesday we did Letter J at our house.

It's Christmas time, and there are so many awesome Christmas words that begin with J, Jesus, Joseph, Joy, and Jingle bell. :) So that's what we focused on today.

I used our Fisher-Price Nativity set to tell the story of the birth of Jesus, and had the kids raise their hands every time I mentioned a name that started with J.

Then we talked about Joy, and how Jesus's birth brought Joy to the world. Of course, we listened to the song Joy to the World. Then we did a simple craft. I had printed and cut out the letters to spell JOY. Then I got out our alphabet stamps, and had the kids match the correct stamp to the corresponding letter in the word JOY. Then they got to stamp their J with J's, the O with O's, and the Y with Y's, in whatever color of ink they wanted. Then we glued the letters to some construction paper, and decorated with glitter glue. I think the kids enjoyed it, even though it was a pretty simple project.

Next we talked about Jingle bells, and made jingle bell bracelets using a jingle bell, pipe cleaner, and some plastic beads. After that I invited the kids to shake their bells to the song Jingle Bells. They did good.
