Mother's Day 2016

There's nobody I'd rather celebrate today with than my favorite mom. She is pretty great in every way, and if I could be half as awesome as her when I grow up, I'll be doing well.

Luckily, we were able to go up to Hooper and spend Mother's Day with my darling mom, and almost all my siblings and step-siblings and their families. It's a pretty rockin' party when we all get together.

Ollie partied so hard he crashed during the middle of dinner, bless him. Haha!

Adelia and her Great Granny Jan spent most of the afternoon getting reacquainted. These girls are two peas in a pod. Del does not get her love of all things glittery, frilly, sparkly, girly, and fancy from me. And she doesn't get it from my mom either. She gets it from this lady right here. These two were the best of pals and talked each other's ears off. At one point Gran even fell asleep in her chair, but Del just kept right on talking to her. Haha! I love my Type 1s. I don't claim to understand them, but I do know life would be really dull without them. :)

My favorite quote about mothers right now is this one by Sister Neill F Marriott from the most recent General Womens' Meeting:

"Mothers literally make room in their bodies to nurture an unborn baby—and hopefully a place in their hearts as they raise them—but nurturing is not limited to bearing children. Eve was called a “mother” before she had children. I believe that “to mother” means “to give life.” Think of the many ways you give life. It could mean giving emotional life to the hopeless or spiritual life to the doubter. With the help of the Holy Ghost, we can create an emotionally healing place for the discriminated against, the rejected, and the stranger. In these tender yet powerful ways, we build the kingdom of God. Sisters, all of us came to earth with these life-giving, nurturing, maternal gifts because that is God’s plan."

Basically women are rock stars through and through. I am grateful for all the women around me who "give life" in so many ways. And I'm grateful for these five and a half little monkeys who call me Mom, and who love me, even though some of them (*cough cough* Lincoln!) would rather not have their picture taken with me. But they made me cards, and gave me chocolate, and even let me take a nap! So I'll keep them for another year or two. ;)
