Today was a great day for sports at the Swan household. Lincoln and Ivan had swim team tryouts and registration early this morning. Because Linc was on the team last year, he didn't have to actually try out. But Ivan did. Ivan was nervous, I think because he remembered not making it last year, and because he's never swam from one end of the pool to the other starting in the deep end. (During conditioning clinics, his group had always stayed in the shallow end.) I was so proud of him though, because he jumped right in and gave it his best shot. He swam steadily, and made it down doing freestyle and back doing the backstroke. And once he hoped out of the pool, the lady watching him congratulated him on making the team! I love it when Ivan smiles as big as he did at that moment. Way to work hard and accomplish your goal Ivan Boy!
After swimming the boys had a soccer game. On the way over we talked about what position the forwards should be in, and how all the forwards needed to spread out and get ahead of the ball in an open spot, so they could be passed to and take a shot. We've had this talk a hundred times at least, but for whatever reason today it stuck. Lincoln listened, and did exactly what we'd talked about. He was standing in the right spot in front of the goal when another team member shot the ball, it bounced off the goalie's knee and right to Lincoln. He took a shot and scored!! Yay Lincoln! His first goal ever. Nice job Buddy. He was all smiles for the rest of the day too.
We spent the afternoon outside as a family, helping Aaron cement in some posts for the chicken run. The chicken run is going to border the sandbox on two sides. We did that so that we could use those three poles to double as poles for a "tree" house. Aaron ended up deciding to put in the fourth tree house pole because it was easier to do all four poles at the same time and get them level, then getting three level now, and trying to match a fourth to them later. (But that also probably means we'll have a tree house sooner than later, since the poles are the hardest part. Yippee!) The chicken run is coming along nicely, we need some more cement and one more pole, and then we'll be able to put in the rest and run the chain link around the outside. Then all that will be left to do is build the gate, and turn the chickens loose inside.
