What a Weekend

We had kind of a crazy weekend. We were supposed to go up to Hooper and stay Friday night and Saturday night at my mom's, and attend a Christmas party that my friends Tami and Mindy put on every year. Half way through our Friday Fun Classes on Friday, Lincoln said he wasn't feeling well. It turned out he had a fever. So I took him home and put him on the couch with a pillow and blanket and gave him some Tylenol.

He still had a fever when we went to pick Aaron up from work, so we decided that we'd wait until morning before heading up to Hooper. We also decided to go get some take-out Thai Food for date night. Yum. We went to Thai Ruby for the first time, and it was excellent.

When we got home, Adelia threw-up all over the kitchen floor. At this point, I was sure we would be staying home all weekend long. She layed down on the couch long enough for us to get the mess cleaned up, then she got up and started running around and telling me she was hungry. I was a little nervous to give her food, especially Thai food, which has a lot of strong flavors to it, but she kept begging so I gave her some cereal. She acted normally the rest of the night. Linc went to bed with a fever, but when I went to check on him before I went to bed, he had cooled down. Aaron and I decided to wait until morning and see, if anyone had fevers we'd stay home, but if everything was well, we'd go.

Lincoln came bopping into our bedroom bright and early the next morning proclaiming that he felt great and was ready to go to Gramma's house. So we got up and packed up, and hit the road. We were scheduled to meet my friends Mindy and Ben in Ogden at Christmas Village so they could shoot some family pictures for us. IT WAS FREEZING! But by some miracle, we did the fastest photo shoot in history, and got some really great shots. I'm pretty excited to get them back and turn them into Christmas cards! Mindy put some previews up on her website and I am so impressed with how the photos turned out. Especially considering that my children were less than cooperative because of the temperature. Anyways, I'll post those photos asap. And hopefully get my Christmas cards out before Christmas is over. :)

We had a fun afternoon hanging out at my mom's house. We got to see Tanya and Nelson and their new baby Nolan. I got to hold Nolan, and remember how much I just love newborns. They are so wonderful to snuggle and to smell! I'll get my turn in March. Can't wait!

Later that night we left the kids with my mom and went to our Christmas party. We had a great time, as usual. My favorite part (besides being able to catch up with friends) is the gingerbread house building contest. This year I came up with the idea to build Rapunzel's tower out of sugar cubes. I'm pretty sure this was inspired by our igloo endeavor from preschool last week. :) And with my husband's artistic talents, the house turned out awesome! The tower is all sugar cubes and frosting, then the house on top is graham cracker and frosting, Rapunzel's hair is a Starburst we melted in the microwave and made a long snake out of and hung from the window. I was thoroughly impressed with us. We won second place. And I am extremely happy we got second too. We've won first the last three years in a row, and I was afraid people were starting to get sick of us, plus the second place prize basket was a "death by chocolate" basket, and I can't think of anything more appealing to this pregnant lady than a basket full of Utah Truffles and Lion House mint brownies. YUM! And no, I'm not sharing. :)

If a prize would have been given out for most sturdy, we would have gotten first place for sure! Aaron was able to pick the whole structure up and balance it on his hand before throwing it in the garbage. Sugar cubes are definitely the way to go if you want stability.

Here are our friends Mindy and Ben and their cute nativity ginger bread house. I was so excited they decided to join in the fun of building this year (usually they do the judging).

I meant to get a picture of Tami and Kyle and their house as well, and a picture of we three girls together, but somehow it just didn't happen. Next year. For sure.

We stayed in Hooper for Sunday, and went to church with Mom and Kerry. I always love doing that. My kids love to go to "Gramma's primary" (because she's in the presidency), and I love to see all the people I know from the ward I grew up in. Mom and Kerry fixed us an excellent buttermilk waffle dinner with homemade buttermilk syrup. And then we headed home to try and beat the snow. We almost made it.

Happy weekend, I'm glad we didn't end up stuck home with a bunch of sickies for children.
