My happy on year old girl. The balloons were her favorite part.
Today is Adelia's birthday...but just barely. She was born at 11:59:55pm, five seconds before midnight. (For more on that story, click here.) I know that kids don't remember their first birthday, that it's really more for the parents, but I tried to make it a good day for her anyway. And I think we succeeded.
Last night before going to bed, Aaron and I decorated the living room with balloons and streamers. That's become a birthday tradition around here, and I like it. When I brought Adelia down in the morning, her mouth and eyes got wide with excitement. We'd left a couple balloons down for her to play with, and she didn't waste any time. Here's my cute little sleepy-head with her balloon first thing out of the shoot.
My mom and Tanner came down to party with us. I was so glad to have them here today. We took the kids to the mall play area, which Adelia loves.

Me and my chillins.
Me and my birthday girl
After the mall, we stopped at Wendy's on the way home. Then we ate lunch and put the kiddos down for a nap. Lincoln's birthday is one week from today, on the 10th. But Aaron is graduating on the 12th and we'll have a lot of family in town that week. So, I decided to go ahead and do his friends party on the afternoon of Adelia's birthday. I figured she wouldn't care, she'd just love getting to play in the water and watching all the kids run around. I was right. I'll do another post about Lincoln's party, but for now, here are some pictures of Adelia at the party.
Ryan and Melissa came over for the party and for dinner afterward. We served spaghetti, because it's one meal Adelia will eat and because it's slightly less messy than rice. It doesn't matter what Adi eats though, she likes it messy. Uncle Ryan gave her the "crown" in the picture below, but the rest is all her doing.
And then there was cake. I made Adelia the same elephant cake that I'd had when I was a little girl. Except I made hers purple, because mine was pink, and we couldn't have that! :) My mom helped me put it together and do the coconut, and I think it turned out awesome.
Funny story really quick, and then we'll get back to the cake eating part. I made the cake yesterday, so I could freeze it so it would be easier to cut into pieces and frost today...anyway, the boys were "helping" me. So they were standing on a chair at the counter while I was running all over the kitchen finding the ingredients to put it. After putting everything in, I turned on the mixer and after a second noticed this really weird lump in the batter. I thought it might be butter that hadn't melted enough, but after a minute or so and it still not breaking apart, I turned off the mixer, and stuck my fingers in and pulled out...a pink bouncy ball. The boys said they thought Adelia would like it. I'm just glad the mixer didn't break it apart, or we would have all been eating bouncy ball cake today. I still let them lick the beaters anyway...cute little stinkers.
Ok, back to the cake eating. Adelia actually wasn't all that interesting in eating the cake. But she definitely was interested in flinging it around the room. What a funny girl.
Then we had to wash her off...
This is probably my favorite picture of the whole day. :)
After we got her cleaned up and redressed, it was time for presents! We probably should have just given her a bunch of wadded up wrapping paper...but I think she will really like the things she got in the long run.
From Gramma Tam and Papa Kerry and Tanner, she is going to get the Little People Noah's Ark, but it didn't come in the mail yet, so today she only got to open the little animals that go with it. She likes them though, she kept putting them in and out of a box and thinking that was great fun.
From our family she got the DVD Signing Time, and some sign language board books. We are going to start learning some sign language around here. It'll be a blast. We also gave her a really cute Melissa and Doug picnic basket. It's made out of cloth, and all the food inside is cloth, and it has two pieces of bread, a slice of cheese, a piece of lettuce, and a tomato that have velcro on them so you can make a sandwich. It also has a watermelon, and and ice cream cone, and a bottle of juice. It's super cute, and I think she's going to love it.
And then it was bedtime. Happy birthday Adelia Mae. We are so happy to have you in our family. We love you and hope you had a wonderful day.
