Frustration, and then...Light at the end of the tunnel!

Has this ever happened to you? The other day I had finished the book I was reading, and I was wondering what I should read next...I don't have much luck with randomly picking out books to read, either they are just plain dumb, or they are trashy, or...the list goes on. So I spent about two hours online searching through book clubs and reading reviews. Finally, I found a book that seemed like it had an interesting story and no one had said anything to make me think it wasn't going to be a wholesome, uplifting book. I rushed to the library and checked it out. To my horror, the book was awful! And not only that but sleezy up the wazzoo, and crude, and lots of swearing. I thought man, I was so sure this one would be good. Why can't books have ratings like movies do? I realize that movie ratings are far from perfect, but then at least there would be something to go by. Needless to say I was pretty frustrated.

Last night I had book club. First of all, I just have to say, I love our book club. I think we have better discussions at book club than we do in a lot of my English courses at BYU. And the women are simply amazing. They are smart and funny, and everyone adds something wonderful about the book from their perspective. So last night at book club, someone mentioned this website goodreads.com. On this website you list off books that you've read, what you rate them, and you can put your own personal review about the book. Then you have another list for books you are currently reading, and books that you want to read. You can invite your friends to this page also and then you are able to see each other's "book shelves" and read their reviews. What a brilliant idea! Now I finally have a place I can go to find good books to read.
