Battery Point Light House, Crescent City, CA |
Sunshine. Today was the only day of our whole trip that we had sunshine. Which meant today was a beach day. In the morning we decided to give Crescent City Beach a second try. It turned out much better this go around.
We could see Batter Point Light House from the coast. There was also a breaker between the lighthouse and the pier. We were really impressed with how much rougher the ocean was on the opposite side of the breaker. We took a little stroll down the pier and watched the sea birds. It made me a bit nervous to have the little kids on the pier. All it would take was one of them leaning over too far, and they'd be in the ocean. We were mean, and made our kids stick together and stay by us. Luckily, no one fell in. :)

We headed back to the cabins for lunch, and to take family pictures. Melissa designed awesome Redwoods Family Reunion T-shirts. And trying to get so many people, particularly so many kids, is always entertaining. Ivan, who hates pictures, was in a very uncooperative mood, because he wanted to be on our way to the tide pools, and didn't think pictures was a good excuse for a delay. He did all right for the kids only pic, but when he found out that we were also doing a full family pic, that was the end. It took some time to convince him to even be in the picture.

After pictures we were on our way to Endert's Beach! We made one quick stop at the Crescent City Harbor to check out the sea lions. They were incredible, and very stinky. I'm not sure how they got their fat selves up on the dock. But they were fun to see. Worth the stop.
It was a really pretty drive along the coast to get to Endert's Beach. Once you get to the parking lot, it's about a half mile, easy hike down to the beach. We picked Endert's Beach because it has tide-pools and a good amount of sand to play in.

We went to the beach at low tide and hung out for a few hours. When the water started rising, we headed home. Aaron made a fire and we roasted our Salmon hobo dinners in the coals. They were very tasty. After dinner all the aunts and uncle and cousins came to our fire pit to roast marshmallows. We sang camp songs, told jokes and stories, and kept the toddlers from tripping into the fire. It was a great evening having family all around.
