New Year's Day 2013: A Lovely Surprise

Aaron was adamant that he was supposed to go back to work on New Year's Day. When I tried to tell him that I thought it was a little weird that his company would have him work on a holiday that a lot of other people get off, he told me that I shouldn't complain and just be grateful that his company had given him paid vacation for all the days between Christmas and New Years. I told him I was very grateful, I just thought it odd he was working New Years, and we let it go at that.

Today came, and we all got up and tried to remember what our usual non-holiday routine was like. I didn't have plans to go anywhere, so Aaron took the car and went in to work. About 20 minutes after he'd left I got a phone call from him, "So, I pulled into work today, and I was the only car in the parking lot. Then I went inside and was the only person in the building. I panicked and thought maybe I was really supposed to work yesterday and have today off. So, I went looking for the holiday schedule hanging up on the wall. I went down the 2012 list, there was Christmas, there were all the days after Christmas and New Year's Eve, but no New Years Day. I scanned it again to make sure I was right. Then I noticed that pinned up to the 2012 list was the 2013 list, and the very first holiday listed in 2013 is New Year's Day. So, should I come home?" Um, yes! Hehe. I love being right. :)

It was a nice surprise to have Aaron for a whole extra day that we weren't expecting to have. Lisa and her family were still in town staying with Aaron's parents, so we decided to go over there to spend some more time with them. Aaron's parents have a great yard for little kid sledding, so the kids and Aaron did some of that too.

When everyone was all snowed-out, they came inside and the kids played and played. My kids love having their cousins around. Lisa's kids are older than mine, but they were so good to play and be patient with mine. My kids just adore them. After we left, Lincoln told me, "Mom, you don't tell as good of jokes as Spencer."
