At first I was a little sad this year because it would be the third year in a row that we didn't get to celebrate the 4th in Hooper. I love the 4th of July in Hooper, specifically for all the reasons mentioned above. It's just nostalgic I guess. And also this year we weren't going to have any family around to spend it with. I mean, at least last year in Phoenix all of Aaron's sisters and their families were there to celebrate with, and that made it fun. But this year Aaron and I were on our own. We got up early (which just goes to show how much I do like this holiday, because I don't do early. Not for anything.) and went to the ward breakfast. We have such a wonderful ward here in Texas that is was almost like being with family. At the breakfast Sister Mayberry invited us to come and have dinner with them. We took her up on it, and offered to bring the watermelon. Then Aaron and Lincoln and I drove to Plano to catch the parade.
It was a good parade, but a little too quiet for my taste. What does that mean? Well, it means there were way too many cars with logos on them, and not enough bands or other things going on to get people excited. I have to say I am partial to bands. I was in the marching band in high school (I played the symbols, if you can imagine that!) and on the 4th we got to march in at least 3 parades playing our patriotic songs. I LOVED IT! But I think Lincoln really enjoyed the parade, so that's what really counts. And hey, we got a free car wash coupon out of the deal, so pretty much it was worth the drive.
We decided it wasn't worth keeping Lincoln up past his bedtime to go see fireworks. So we went home, put him to bed and watched a movie. I guess we could have watched fireworks on TV, but we don't have one! :) So our holiday was very enjoyable. My only regret was that for the 3rd year in a row, I forgot to pull out my patriotic cd and listen to it. Man, I'm such a loser. Guess I'll have to save it for the 24th...PIONEER DAY BABY!

Hey Krystal!!! I miss you! I called you on the 4th to say hi during the parades because I thought of you. And ps, I will find out about our names and let you know. That's a fun one. Hopefully you are doing great! And NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN UTAH, YOU BETTER LET US KNOW YOU STINKER!! LOVE YA!
I agree! Hooper has by far the coolest 4th of July ever... If it makes you feel any better though, it was a little slow this year. Not a very long parade or many booths at the park. :-)
